Its president, Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid, said the initiative represents a large-scale awakening involving international citizens to challenge Israel’s illegal maritime blockade.

MAPIM calls on the global community, including humanitarian organisations, trade unions, religious communities, students, artists, and governments from Global South countries, to contribute ships, crew, medical supplies, food and humanitarian solidarity.

An international coordination meeting will be held soon to begin the first phase of the 1000 Flotilla’s voyage within the next two months.

For further information on participation, contributions or organising regional meetings, the public can contact 019-4744856.

Malaysian civil society organisations
on Saturday announced a plan to launch what they describe as the largest maritime mobilisation in the world to break the Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip.

The campaign, known as the "Thousand Ship Flotilla", aims to dispatch vessels from multiple continents in a coordinated effort to deliver humanitarian aid and pressure Israel to end its siege.

The initiative was unveiled during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur by Azmi Abdul Hamid, head of the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (MAPIM).
The proposed flotilla comes amid growing frustration with the failure of international institutions to halt the war on Gaza or enforce international humanitarian law. With public support for Palestine rising in many parts of the world, flotilla organisers hope the campaign will generate political momentum.

The organisers said that preparations are ongoing and further announcements will follow in the coming weeks

Gaza City – For the past week, Madleen Kulab, the 30-year-old fisherwoman and inspiration for the name of the Madleen aid ship, had followed the vessel’s journey with a mixture of hope and anxiety as it sailed towards Gaza’s shores in an attempt to break Israel’s blockade.

Throughout its voyage, Kulab remained in close contact with organisers of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), which launched the vessel.
Since its latest war on Gaza began on October 7, 2023, Israel has killed at least 54,880 Palestinians and wounded 126,227, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health.

Since 2007, Palestinians in Gaza have lived under an air, land and sea blockade imposed by Israel.
