Seven people were killed in the attack on the tent located outside the main gate of Gaza City’s al-Shifa Hospital late on Sunday evening. They include Al Jazeera correspondent Mohammed Qreiqeh and camera operators Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal and Moamen Aliwa.

Shortly before being killed, al-Sharif, a well-known 28-year-old Al Jazeera Arabic correspondent who had reportedly extensively from northern Gaza, wrote on X that Israel had launched intense, concentrated bombardment – also known as “fire belts” – on the eastern and southern parts of Gaza City.

In a final message, written on April 6, to be published in the event of his death, al-Sharif said he “lived the pain in all its details” and “tasted grief and loss repeatedly”.

“Despite that, I never hesitated to convey the truth as it is, without distortion or misrepresentation, hoping that God would witness those who remained silent, those who accepted our killing, and those who suffocated our very breaths,” he said.

The reporter also expressed sorrow for having had to leave his wife, Bayan, behind, and for not seeing his son, Salah, and daughter, Sham, grow up.

In a statement, Al Jazeera Media Network condemned the killings as “yet another blatant and premeditated attack on press freedom”.

“This attack comes amid the catastrophic consequences of the ongoing Israeli assault on Gaza, which has seen the relentless slaughter of civilians, forced starvation, and the obliteration of entire communities,” the network said.

“The order to assassinate Anas Al Sharif, one of Gaza’s bravest journalists, and his colleagues, is a desperate attempt to silence the voices exposing the impending seizure and occupation of Gaza.”

Al Jazeera correspondent Hani Mahmoud, who was just one block away when the strike hit, said reporting on al-Sharif’s death was the hardest thing he has had to do in the past 22 months of war.

In a statement confirming the deliberate killing of al-Sharif, Israel’s military accused the journalist of heading a Hamas cell and “advancing rocket attacks against Israeli civilians and [Israeli] troops”. It also alleged that it had documents providing “unequivocal proof” of his involvement with the Palestinian group.

Muhammed Shehada, an analyst at the Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, said there was “zero evidence” that al-Sharif took part in any hostilities.

Since Israel launched its war on the enclave in October 2023, it has routinely accused Palestinian journalists in Gaza of being Hamas members as part of what rights groups say is an effort to discredit their reporting of Israeli abuses.

The Israeli military has killed more than 200 reporters and media workers since its bombardment began, including several Al Jazeera journalists and their relatives.

New Israeli Massacre in Tel al-Hawa as Bombardment Intensifies in Central Strip https://istandwithpalestine.org/story/new-israeli-massacre-in-tel-al-hawa-as-bombardment-intensifies-in-central-strip/ https://istandwithpalestine.org/story/new-israeli-massacre-in-tel-al-hawa-as-bombardment-intensifies-in-central-strip/#respond Wed, 23 Jul 2025 11:35:36 +0000 https://istandwithpalestine.org/story/new-israeli-massacre-in-tel-al-hawa-as-bombardment-intensifies-in-central-strip/ Israeli occupation forces carried out a new massacre in Gaza City early Wednesday, while intensifying aerial and artillery strikes on Deir al-Balah in central Gaza as part of an ongoing ground invasion that began two days ago.

Hospital sources in Gaza reported that at least seven people were killed and more than 15 injured in an Israeli airstrike that targeted an apartment in the Tel al-Hawa neighborhood, southwest of Gaza City.

Later in the night, Israeli forces bombed a tent sheltering displaced Palestinians in Al-Shati Refugee Camp, west of Gaza City, killing a woman and wounding others.

This attack came less than 24 hours after another deadly strike on the same camp that left dozens dead and injured, many of them displaced civilians.

In a separate attack at dawn, Palestinian medical sources confirmed that Israeli forces targeted an ambulance vehicle near Hamad Hospital in the northwest of Gaza City, injuring several paramedics.

Elsewhere in the Strip, Israeli aircraft launched heavy air raids and artillery shelling on Deir al-Balah and its surroundings overnight. Flares were also fired into the sky over the city.

The attacks coincide with continued Israeli ground incursions into the southern and eastern areas of Deir al-Balah, part of the military operation launched in the early hours of Monday.

In central Gaza, Israeli drones struck homes in Al-Bureij Refugee Camp early Wednesday, as tanks simultaneously opened heavy fire on areas east of the camp. Israeli warplanes also bombed northern parts of Al-Nuseirat.

According to hospital sources in Gaza, 81 Palestinians were killed on Tuesday alone by Israeli fire, including 31 people who were attempting to collect humanitarian aid.

\'Denied\' – ICC Upholds Arrest Warrants for Netanyahu, Gallant in Genocide Probe https://istandwithpalestine.org/story/denied-icc-upholds-arrest-warrants-for-netanyahu-gallant-in-genocide-probe/ https://istandwithpalestine.org/story/denied-icc-upholds-arrest-warrants-for-netanyahu-gallant-in-genocide-probe/#respond Thu, 17 Jul 2025 14:27:25 +0000 https://istandwithpalestine.org/story/denied-icc-upholds-arrest-warrants-for-netanyahu-gallant-in-genocide-probe/ The International Criminal Court (ICC) has firmly rejected Israel’s bid to annul arrest warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, simultaneously dismissing Israel’s request to suspend the ongoing investigation into alleged crimes in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The ruling, issued by Pre-Trial Chamber I on Wednesday, reaffirms the court’s jurisdiction and signals a significant legal setback for the Israeli leadership.

Israel had submitted a dual request to the ICC on May 9, 2025, according to the Anadolu Agency. The first sought the withdrawal, cancellation, or invalidation of the arrest warrants, while the second called for the suspension of the prosecutor’s investigation into the situation in Palestine. Both requests were unequivocally dismissed.

Central to Israel’s argument was the contention that the ICC lacks jurisdiction over crimes committed in the Palestinian territories. However, the court’s judges, in their decision, explicitly rejected this argument, reiterating previous rulings that establish its jurisdiction.

They further clarified that an Appeals Chamber decision from April 24, 2025, could not be interpreted as undermining the court’s authority in this regard, Anadolu reported.

The ICC’s assertion of jurisdiction over Palestine dates back to a February 5, 2021, ruling, which declared Palestine a State Party to the Rome Statute. This decision extended the court’s jurisdiction to Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, territories that have been under Israeli occupation since 1967. The formal investigation by the ICC Office of the Prosecutor into the situation in Palestine commenced on March 3, 2021.

The arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant were originally issued on November 21, 2024, citing alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity. A warrant for a Hamas leader, Ibrahim al-Masri (also known as Mohammed Deif), was also issued at that time but was later withdrawn in February following credible reports of his death, as reported by Reuters.

Israel has consistently rejected the jurisdiction of the Hague-based court and denies any war crimes in Gaza, claiming that its military campaign is aimed at eliminating the Palestinian resistance group, Hamas.

The Israeli genocide, however, has killed and wounded nearly 200,000 people, mostly civilians. Over 14,000 people remain missing.

Israeli army demolishes 7 more Palestinian homes in occupied West Bank https://istandwithpalestine.org/story/israeli-army-demolishes-7-more-palestinian-homes-in-occupied-west-bank/ https://istandwithpalestine.org/story/israeli-army-demolishes-7-more-palestinian-homes-in-occupied-west-bank/#respond Wed, 09 Jul 2025 12:45:24 +0000 https://istandwithpalestine.org/story/israeli-army-demolishes-7-more-palestinian-homes-in-occupied-west-bank/ The Israeli army demolished seven Palestinian houses in the West Bank on Wednesday, in the latest wave of home demolitions in the occupied territory.

Israeli forces raided the town of Shuqb, west of Ramallah, and razed six homes, a shed, and retaining walls, citing the lack of a building permit, village chief Adnan Shalash told Anadolu.

He said the demolished structures included a three-story house that had stood for 15 years, calling the demolitions “a tragedy for the local community.”

In Rujeib, east of Nablus in the northern West Bank, Israeli forces demolished a two-story house for the alleged lack of a construction permit, witnesses said.

According to Palestinian figures, Israeli authorities demolished 588 Palestinian structures in the first half of this year, affecting 843 people, including 411 children.

Israel widely uses the pretext of a lack of construction permits to demolish Palestinian homes, especially in Area C in the occupied West Bank, which constitutes around 60% of its space.

Area C is under Israel’s administrative and security control until a final status agreement is reached with the Palestinians.

Israel attacks Iran: What we know so far https://istandwithpalestine.org/story/israel-attacks-iran-what-we-know-so-far/ https://istandwithpalestine.org/story/israel-attacks-iran-what-we-know-so-far/#respond Fri, 13 Jun 2025 15:58:59 +0000 https://istandwithpalestine.org/story/israel-attacks-iran-what-we-know-so-far/ Israel has attacked several Iranian nuclear facilities and military sites, and carried out assassinations of top military officials and nuclear scientists. An initial wave of strikes was carried out on Friday morning. A second, separate attack on the city of Tabriz, northwest Iran, was reported by local media later on Friday.

On Friday afternoon, the semi-official state media group, the Iranian Fars news agency reported “unofficial statistics” showing that more than 70 people had been killed and more than 320 were injured in Israel’s attacks.

Strikes have been confirmed in the following locations:

The capital, Tehran, and military sites in the surrounding area.
The city of Natanz, where explosions were reported at the main uranium enrichment facility.
The city of Tabriz, where explosions have been reported near a nuclear research centre and two military bases.
The city of Isfahan, south of Tehran.
The city of Arak, southwest of Tehran.
The city of Kermanshah, west of Tehran, where an underground facility storing ballistic missiles was hit near the Iraqi border.
Images posted on social media showed damaged structures, including residential buildings, across the Iranian capital.

Later on Friday morning, the Israeli army said it had damaged the Natanz uranium enrichment site’s underground structures, including a multistorey enrichment hall with centrifuges, electrical rooms and additional supporting infrastructure.

According to Iranian media, Hossein Salami, commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and Mohammad Bagheri, chief of staff of the Iranian military, were among those killed in the Israeli attack.

Israeli military chief of staff, Eyal Zamir, said Israel had reached a “point of no return” with the attack on Friday.

Describing the early morning strikes on Iran as a “fight to preserve our existence”, Zamir said Israel launched the attacks as it could not “wait for another moment to act”.

He also said: “Anyone who tries to challenge us will pay a heavy price.”

Oman, which is mediating nuclear talks between the US and Iran, called Israel’s action “a dangerous, reckless escalation, representing a flagrant violation” of the UN charter.

“Such aggressive, persistent behavior is unacceptable and further destabilizes the regional peace and security.

“The Sultanate of Oman holds Israel responsible for this escalation and its consequences, and calls upon the international community to adopt a firm and unequivocal stance to halt this dangerous course of action.”
