D-8 Summit: Palestine President Calls for Ceasefire, Full UN Recognition dailynewsegypt.com
Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas has stated that lasting security and stability in the region hinge on the State of Palestine achieving full membership in the United Nations and gaining broader international recognition. He emphasised that this progress is vital to fostering hope for a better future for the Palestinian people and the entire region.
Speaking at the eleventh summit of the Developing-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8) in Cairo on Thursday, President Abbas highlighted the critical situation faced by Palestinians. He condemned what he described as daily massacres, acts of genocide, forced starvation, and displacement efforts. He stressed the urgent need to implement UN Security Council Resolution 2735, calling for an immediate ceasefire.
Abbas also demanded the unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid, the assumption of responsibilities by the State of Palestine in the Gaza Strip, and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces. Furthermore, he urged compliance with the UN General Assembly resolution concerning the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice.
